Cleaning and maintaining your NunnaUuni fireplace

The fireplace provides the best performance if you perform regular maintenance and operate it in keeping with the instructions in the manual. In addition to the statutory sweeping, some self-performed maintenance, such as cleaning the grate and emptying the ash box, is necessary for the fireplace’s operation and durability.

Emptying the ash box and storing the ash

Empty the ash box before it is full. Remove the ash, and place it in a metal container with a cover. Ash can contain smouldering embers, so its storage poses a fire hazard. Never store ash indoors.

Cleaning the Grate of the Golden Fire

Clean the grate regularly, preferably always before heating. Then the combustion air can flow unobstructed and cool down the grate.

The grate can be cleaned with the tool supplied with the fireplace by dropping the ash into the ash box, or with a special ash extractor suited for removing the ash.

Cleaning the outer surface of the fireplace

The surface of a NunnaUuni fireplace is easy to keep clean. It can be cleaned with a moist cleaning cloth and an ordinary detergent. If necessary, NunnaUuni cleaning spray may be used for grease and soot stains – more information is available at your local NunnaUuni distributor. Patinated stains can be cleaned by rubbing the stone surface with wet sandpaper (400–600 grit) or with an abrasive sponge. Use water for polishing, so that the result is smooth and shiny. Wipe away the accumulated paste with water when the polishing is finished. Wet sandpaper can be used for cleaning the seams, as well.

It is not recommended to treat stone surface with coatings, since the coating can be altered in the warmth.

When the glass of the door has cooled down, it can be cleaned with cleaning agents meant for cleaning glass, ceramic stoves, or similar. Follow the instructions for the detergent’s use! You may also use a nonabrasive rubbing sponge or moist paper towels with the ash.
