NunnaUuni is an innovator in the scientific research and product development of heat-storing fireplaces. The product development work for NunnaUuni fireplaces is based on long-term scientific research. The aim of the research and product development is also to develop the entire field and fireplace research in general.

Co-operation with experts in the fields of geology, energy technology, construction, design, and housing, as well as the application of that information to traditional fireplace building skills, is the starting point for NunnaUuni's research and development work.

Knowledge of stone and combustion as cornerstones

Knowledge of the material used in heat-storing fireplace structures is a key factor in our product development. The company initiated soapstone research at the University of Oulu’s Department of Geology in 1993. The research showed that the stone from NunnaUuni’s MammuttiStone deposit is unique in terms of its heat storage, heat release, and heat resistance properties.

Another cornerstone of our product development is expertise in energy technology and knowledge of the burning process. NunnaUuni has developed and patented the Golden Fire, a new kind of wood gasification burning method, thanks to which the fire burns efficiently and cleanly at a high, even temperature.

Functionality proven with tests

Testing and approval using internationally standardised research methods guarantees the quality of a NunnaUuni fireplace. In 1998, in collaboration with the German Fraunhofer-Institut für Bauphysik, Nunnanlahden Uuni Oy developed the first testing and measurement method for heat-storing fireplaces, SAA 142/222. The Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (German construction institute) approved the test as an official test for heat-storing fireplaces. The test determines the amount of heat produced by the fireplace (kWh) and its heat release output (kW). The test also measures the temperature of the released combustion gases and the emission levels. On the basis of the test, NunnaUuni fireplaces are divided into three different heat categories according to their daily effective heat output.

NunnaUuni Oy has been granted dozens of patents and registered designs. Their number keeps increasing.



NunnaUuni products are continuously tested in the company's own test laboratorium. In addition to that every product is tested in at least one independent research insititut.
