NunnaUuni Oy has decades of research activities and fireplace know-how of its parent company, Nunnanlahden Uuni Oy, behind its operations. The founder and chairman of the board of both companies, Juhani Lehikoinen, represents the third generation in a line of fireplace-makers. The company is based in the village of Nunnanlahti in Northern Karelia. Its main product is heat-storing fireplaces made of MammuttiStone, otherwise known as the NunnaUuni fireplaces, and building stones and slabs.
The parent company of NunnaUuni Oy, Nunnanlahden Uuni Oy, was established in 1982, when it also began the industrial production of heat-storing fireplaces. At the beginning of 2007, it signed over its production, sales, and marketing operations to its subsidiary, NunnaUuni Oy. At present, NunnaUuni Oy is the largest privately owned company in its field in Finland.
The NunnaUuni principles include constant, long-term investments in research and product development work. One of the most important results of these dedicated product development efforts is the new gasification wood-burning method patented by the company, the Golden Fire. In making use of this method, research work related to soapstone properties has been important. This research has shown that the main type of soapstone in the company's deposit, MammuttiStone, is an excellent fireplace material. This type is most likely the only soapstone that can utilise the high temperature of the Golden Fire, and guarantee the customer ideal and even warmth.
At the start of 2007, the company had 240 employees. It has an annual turnover of approximately 26 million euros, more than half of which comes from export sales. The export turnover mainly comes from the German-speaking countries in Central Europe. Just under half of the turnover comes from Finland.
NunnaUuni Oy has sales partners in 15 countries. In Finland, NunnaUuni has more than 150 authorised dealers and a network of over 30 NunnaUuni master fireplace installers. In total, there are approximately 500 authorised dealers.
